It may not ordinarily be thought of as the best game in the arena of wagering, but keno has millions of zealous fans. And why not? It’s a consistently entertaining lotto-ish game that’s a breeze to master, readily available in lots of assorted styles, and one that can yield millions of dollars for people who learn its limitless subtle nuances. But let’s begin with the basics for now.

When explaining keno to novices, some wagering masters compare it to bingo. This is at least to some extent apt, in that each game is generally numerical. However, to carry that comparison too far would be to downplay the endless unique traits that make keno so fun. Unlike bingo, keno gamblers have the power to select the numbers for every card.

Keno cards have a total of eighty numbers, but the user is given an additional level of personal responsibility by being able to determine as many (or as few) numbers as he or she desires. And it doesn’t take a super genius to ascertain how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark all of your desired numbers with a normal#2 pencil like you used when you were in school.

Once you’ve selected your numbers, take the card back to the nice person at the keno stand. The person will record those numbers and then give you a receipt. Make sure no to drop this (potentially) expensive bit of paper! Even if the keno pit manager remembers your face and wants help out, without a winning receipt in hand, you will win precisely $.00 for your time spent.

Ok, there you have strategy number one: always take care to keep your keno receipt. Let’s move on to something a little more advanced, shall we?

After you’ve checked off your numbers, settle into a comfy keno booth and see the action unfold on the big keno monitor. That is where the winning numbers are shown for us. If you checked winners, mark your card appropriately. Sake care not to take too much time, or sit there praising yourself for too great a length of time. You want to get up to the keno booth to redeem your winnings, since a new keno game will almost certainly begin within five minutes.

Strategy number two: always make sure to get back to the keno booth on time!

Assuming you do not trust yourself to make that five-minute margin each time, you always retain the option of purchasing a "multi-race" card. These include the self same set of your handpicked numbers on anywhere from two to 20 cards. When the max number of games (the same as the amount of tickets) is played out, you are then able to get off your lazy butt and go get your winnings.

Yet an additional option is referred to as a "stray and play" keno card, which generally lets you make number choices for 30 keno games or more. Golly, you can take vacation to Greece and not have to worry about getting back in time to redeem your numbers. Most "stray and play" game tickets are good for up to a whole year after it’s purchased!
