It won’t commonly be looked at as the funnest game in the realm of gambling, but keno has tons of steadfast supporters. As well it should! It’s a constantly entertaining lottery-ish game that’s a breeze to play, abundantly available in many alternate variations, and one that will yield mega-dollars for gamblers who learn its numerous subtle nuances. But let’s deal with the basic rules for now.

When explaining keno to beginners, some gambling connoisseurs compare it to the lottery. This is at least partly apt, in that both games are basically numerical. But to carry that comparison too far might be to misunderstand the great many unique traits that make keno so compelling. Not like bingo, keno enthusiasts have the freedom to pick the numbers for each card.

Keno cards have a total of 80 numbers, but the user is furnished with an additional degree of personal responsibility by being able to choose as many (or as few) numbers as she needs. And it doesn’t take a keno superstar to determine how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark each of your chosen numbers with a standardpen like you had when you were in third grade.

After you have checked your numbers, take the card back to the nice person at the keno stand. The person will record your numbers and then hand you a receipt. Don’t drop this (potentially) lucrative bit of paper! Even if the clerk remembers your loud shirt and wants help out, without a winning ticket on you, you will be given precisely $.00 for your winning card.

OK, so there you have strategy #1: always be sure to keep your keno ticket. Let us move to something a little bit more useful, shall we?

Once you’ve checked off your numbers, get yourself into a comfortable keno booth and see the action happen on the keno monitor. This is where the winning numbers are shown for us. If you’ve got winning numbers, mark your card accordingly. Make sure not to drag your feet, or sit there congratulating yourself for an obnoxious length of time. You are required to get back to the keno stand to get your winnings, and a new drawing will probably get going within five minutes.

Strategy number 2: always make sure to get back to the keno booth on time!

Assuming you can’t trust yourself to make that five-minute margin each time, you always have the option of purchasing a "multi-race" card. These include the same set of your handpicked numbers on anywhere from 2 to 20 slips. When the maximum number of keno games (the same as the amount of tickets) is played out, you may then get off your lazy back side and go retrieve your winnings.

Another opportunity is recognized as a "stray and play" keno card, which generally allows you make number selection for 30 rounds or more. Golly, you can take an ocean cruise and not have to worry about getting back in time to get your numbers. Most "stray and play" slips are good for up to a whole year after you by it!

And now you are aware of a number of required techniques for winning keno. If you are an adept keno player, they might seem very obvious. But it does not hurt to bone up on the basic techniques, and if you are a new keno player, every tiny bit of information will help make your keno gambling more fun.
